How Patrick Roy Has Islanders on Red Wings’ Heels (+)

When Patrick Roy was the Colorado Avalanche goaltender from 1995-2003, the Detroit Red Wings fans learned to detest his cockiness and elite level of competitiveness.

The animosity toward Roy may be reestablished if he continues to perform well as the New York Islanders coach.  Since replacing Lane Lambert on Jan. 20, Roy has transformed the Islanders into a more passionate and effective team.  The Islanders have won five in a row and are only two points behind the Red Wings for an Eastern Conference wild card spot.

“He’s got a whole different game plan and a whole different mindset,” forward Matt Martin told Hockey Now’s Andrew Fantucchio. “It takes a whole lot of buy-in and everyone playing the right way. I think what Patrick, more than anything, has stressed is togetherness and everyone being on the same page.”
