As the Red Wins have improved, the line between progression and regression got more fine. From that point each new season S.Y. has to do his best and roll the dice.

The result will speak to the team’s momentum, forward or back. This season is no different in that regard. What will I say if they fall back ? I’ll say “S.Y. did his best and it didn’t work out.”

He has plenty of talent in the pipeline to stock G.R.with and he’s proven able to find new talent too. That’s his main job. That AND being the guy who takes the chances.

Good news is now he’s mostly working with players he’s brought in. So he knows them well and has faith in them. That must make it a little easier to roll those dice every preseason.

With the cap you can’t pay a full a team of core type players. So the best way is to pay some and take an educated chance on the rest. My proposal is no different.

And it doesn’t need to be Stamkos and Kane but I like that combo because they are hard to play against in different ways that could keep the opposition off balance.

And SIZE is not everything but I agree its a must have. And that is where the Wings are a little light in the wallet. But Edmonton has managed to do okay with a lighter balanced team.

Then what are you going ti say or suggest when both DET and GR suffer and the entire organization goes backwards.? SY is way too savy to do something like that.

The Red Wings need to get bigger and more physical in their top six and I don’t think you want the young players learning how not to play defense. I guess it depends if they’re trying to build a playoff team or fill the seats. When it comes to trading away players for cap space Copp would be high on my list. Yzerman should be busy.

Open up cap space by any possible means and bring in Stamkos AND Kane for 3 years each. Then back-fill with GR players and inexpensive F/As. Simple. Glad I don’t have to do it.

Point is we’d have a rockin’ lot of forwards AND a darn good bunch on D if a bit inexperienced. Its a gamble but these changes are coming anyway so why not go for it?
