Do you realize the Wings have not been in the playoffs fir 8 years?
That’s the second longest playoff drought in NHL history.
Now, Yzerman says we may not make playoffs in 2025 either!
Steve Yzerman needs to be fired!

Great article and every point is extremely valid. It’s very simple. We are a middle of the pack team. And the more young guys like Seider and Raymond that get paid, the less veteran help we are bringing in like Kane. Either the pipeline steps up and keep improving the team, or else middle of the pack is the best we’ll be and waste away Larkins prime years.

Doesn’t seem like a bad way to put it. Hire somebody that has been a winning head coach. I don’t know why Yzerman wouldn’t have done that in the first place, other than maybe there were no winning head coaches that wanted the job in Detroit.

And as for Berggren and Johansen, I can’t help thinking that if they were going to be quality NHL players they would have been on the team before running out their options.

Link me to any youtuber (not random comments) calling for Yzerman or Lalonde to be fired. I didn’t see that. The team has been rebuilding for 8+ years, they should be aiming for success now. I can also see Kane re-signing, the cap has risen sufficiently and Yzerman plays his cards very close to his chest, so I wouldn’t bother trying to read anything into what he says – although of course the pressure is on coaching, it always is.

I cant help but think we’re going to see someone fired this next season, either Lalonde, or Bob Boughner, or both.

Youtube (hardly a denizen of hockey minds, granted) was chock full of people calling for Yzerman or Lalonde’s head this past season. And that was a team teetering on success. This means the pressure is high. Anything less than a brush with success and the mobs are going to be out with their pitch forks.

Reading carefully what Yzerman said in his post-season address, the pressure will be on the coaching next season. And if there is regression, I fear the worst for someone’s job.
With an increased amount of rookies on the roster next season, it really will be down to the coach to provide a system that gives them the best chance to win games and given that the defense will be under the spotlight, Lalonde and/or Boughner could well pay for any regression that creeps in.
