Detroit Red Wings
The Daily: Red Wings Intrigued by Brandsegg-Nygard; Nabokov Excitement
The Michael Brandsegg-Nygard expected presence at the Detroit Red Wings’ training camp speaks to the curiousity the organization has about him.
It’s clear they see special qualities in him. The Red Wings don’t usually bring European players to training camp the same year they draft him. Simon Edvinsson, Lucas Raymond and Axel Sandin Pellikka stayed with their Swedish Hockey League team, but Brandsegg-Nygard, signed with Skelleftea, is coming over.
That doesn’t mean the Red Wings expect him to make the Detroit roster. But it does mean they would like to see where he is at in comparison to NHL players. At 6-1, 202, he has the physical stature to compete as a young man. He also boasts a major league shot.
Detroit GM Steve Yzerman has been consistent in his belief that a prospect needs to be fully ready to make his team. Close isn’t good enough. Brandsegg-Nygard has said he expects to be back in Skelleftea at some point.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Filip Zadina landed another fresh start by accepting a two-year contract with Davos in the Swiss League.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard will be leaving his Skellefea team in the Swedish Hockey League soon to ready himself to attend the Red Wings training camp.
Former Red Wings player Tomas Tatar helped Slovakia earn a berth in the 2026 Olympic hockey pool. NHL players will be competing in the Olympics for the first time since 2014.
