Ranking Red Wings Prospects: The Goaltenders (+)

Since arriving as GM of the Detroit Red Wings in 2019, Steve Yzerman has continued to make a concerted effort to upgrade the team’s goaltending. He’s sought to do so at both the NHL level and in the development pipeline.

Through five NHL entry drafts as GM, Yzerman has opted to select five netminders, including two goalies as part of the 2023 draft class.

Red Wings Used To Hire Goalies

It’s a much different landscape than when Yzerman was captain of the team. Back then, the Red Wings were much more likely to bring in a hired gun to man the net, including the likes of Mike Vernon, Dominik Hasek and Curtis Joseph.
