Gylander Joins Red Wings With Confidence On and Off the Ice (+)
It’s too early to know whether Sebastian Cossa and Carter Gylander will develop into a top NHL goalie tandems. But if they end up with the Detroit Red Wings at the same time, they will be able to keep the dressing room entertained.
Cossa 21, is the team’s No. 1 goaltending prospect, and Gylander, 23, is a seventh-round pick. But they are both tall, lean netminders with big personalities and ample confidence. They are on equal footing when it comes to communicating who they are.
“Coss and I, we go back quite a few years,” Gylander said. “I was part of the (Edmonton) Oil Kings organization when he was there, actually before he was there. Ever since he joined the Oil Kings, I’ve kind of known him and skated with him. We play a similar game, we worked with the same goalie coaches many years go. There’s a lot of things I’ll watch in the way he uses his size. It’s nice to see somebody who’s kind of similar to my build. You can kind of pick up on little habits that he does.”
