The Daily: Hasek Consistent in His Views: Sabres Grades
Dominik Hasek has overflowing respect for former Red Wings teammate Pavel Datsyuk’s abilty as a player. But it’s not enough to persuade Hasek to overlook his disdain for Russia over Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Hasek was critical of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s timing of selecting Datsyuk to enter the Hall this year. He believes Datsyuk deserves the honor, but not now.
“I don’t know if Pavel plans to condemn the Russian war in the coming months and, above all, if he is able to do it,” Hasek acknowledged. “However, it must be said that if he doesn’t, his appearance at the award ceremony (since he is a Russian citizen) will be a huge advertisement for the Russian war and Russian crimes.”
Bob Duff wrote the story for Detroit Hockey Now. “Hasek also is calling the Hockey Hall of Fame to task,” Duff wrote. “He believes extending an invitation to Datsyuk to the November enshrinement ceremony. The Hall of Fame goalie views it as akin to a tacit approval of Russia’s attack on Ukraine.”
Hasek has been consistent in his beliefs. He has visited the war-torn Ukraine. Hasek had a war of words with his former Red Wings teammate Slava Fetisov, a Russian, about the situation.
New members will be inducted into the @HockeyHallFame in November. Among them will be Russian citizen and former outstanding hockey player Pavel Datsyuk. With his excellent performances and everything he has done for hockey, Pavel undoubtedly deserves a place in the HHOF.…

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Red Wings need Erik Gustafsson to have a strong offensive to help make up for the loss of Shayne Gostisbehere through free agency. The Red Wings had hoped to re-sign Gostisbehere.
Former Red Wings player Tyler Bertuzzi could be a good fit as a winger for the Chicago center Connor Bedard.
With Michael Brandsegg-Nygard’s signing, all of Steve Yzerman’s first round draft picks are officially in Detroit’s system.
Red Wings Offseason
The Ottawa Senators (278) and Colorado Avalanche (278) were the only NHL teams to boast more power play opportunities than the Red Wings (273). The Red Wings will have to have a top 10 power play this season to challenge for a playoff spot.
