Jacob Trouba, Rangers

Arthur Staple of the Athletic reported that the New York Rangers are unlikely to move Jacob Trouba before the upcoming season. However, they likely will move him next summer when their salary cap crunch will be more severe.

Before the NHL draft, the New York Post reported the Rangers were trying to move Michigan native Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings. Subsequent reports said the Rangers and Red Wings were never close to a deal.

Trouba has two seasons left on an $8 million cap hit. Next summer, the Rangers will be looking to re-up Alex Lafreniere, K’Andre Miller and goalie Igor Shesterkin. At that point, the Rangers might have to buyout or deal Trouba, who is their captain.

The rugged defenseman has a 15-team no-trade clause.  Part of the complication for Trouba is he is married to a doctor who working on her residency in the New York area.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Simon Edvinsson is bulking up this summer in preparation to be a full-time NHL defenseman.

Bob Duff writes that the Red Wings could be a deeper team this season, even in goal where they have signed Cam Talbot and Jack Campbell.

Where have all of the former Red Wings gone? Filip Zadina is thinking about playing in Europe.

Red Wings Offseason

The Grand Rapids Griffins signed 6-foot-3 defenseman Chaz Reddekopp (REH-deh-kawp) to a one-year, two-way contract for the  2024-25 season. He was 2015 Los Angeles Kings draft pick. He played for the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL) last season.
