The Daily: UFA Market Still Has Players; One Year After Karlsson Trade
Jonathan Bailey of Philadelphia Hockey Now offered a story this week about three UFA players the Philadelphia Flyers should be looking at. It is a reminder that there are always leftovers in the UFA marketplace in August and September.
Some of those players could plug holes on various teams.
Bailey’s story highlighted forwards Kailer Yamamoto and Kevin LaBanc, plus defenseman Calen Addison.
“Some might remember the fantastic 2018-19 season Labanc had with the Sharks, when he scored a career-high 17 goals, 39 assists, and 56 points while playing in all 82 games for the only time in his NHL career,” Bailey wrote. “Those days might be in the past, but the Flyers could do worse than throwing a dart at a veteran winger who has a history of playing well, scoring goals, and generally being a reliable forward. ”
Other players in the UFA market (according puckpedia.com) who could play a role: James van Riemsdyk, Max Pacioretty, Filip Zadina, Tony DeAngelo and Kevin Shattenkirk among others.
And for those who don’t spend much time looking at salary cap, the Red Wings really don’t have the cap space or roster spots to add anyone without causing issues.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Bob Duff looks at five past Red Wings performances that don’t receive enough attention. One of them involves Bob Probert.
Detroit seventh round draft pick Fisher Scott grew up rooting for the Colorado Avalanche. He never would have guessed that he would find himself tied to the Red Wings.
Paywall story: Most of Gordie Howe’s older hockey cards sell for the highest money among Red Wings cards. But one of the rarest cards in the marketplace is late Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch‘s Pro Set trading card from the early 1990s. Detroit Hockey Now has the story.
