Five days ago, Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dan Kingerski wondered aloud why the Pittsburgh Penguins hadn’t yet announced a new contract for Sidney Crosby.

It’s assumed he will be given a contract that will keep Crosby in a Penguins’ jersey for his entire career.

It appears the Penguins are moving to closer to getting that accomplished. Rob Rossi of the Athletic is reporting that the team and Crosby are confident a deal will be formalized soon.

A lot of people have opinions on what’s best for Sidney Crosby.

But he’s close to extending his time with ⁦@penguins⁩ — the team he’s repeatedly said with which he wants to retire.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The recent signing of Christian Fischer provides a more complete picture of what the Red Wings’ third and fourth lines. Andrew Copp will be the No. 3 center, with Michael Rasmussen on wing and perhaps Jonatan Berggren on the other. That would leave Tyler Motte, Joe Veleno and Christian Fischer on a rambunctious high energy fourth line. All three of those players should be in the 100- to 125-hit range. But don’t rule out Fischer playing with Copp and Rasmussen. That trio looked sharp when they played together briefly last season. That situation also will be heavily dependent on how well Berggren is playing, particularly away from the puck.
