When GM Steve Yzerman took over the Detroit Red Wings, he inherited a team that had drafted 19 goalies over the previous 25 years and only managed to find two who played a meaningful number of game for the team.

That’s a 10.5% success rate.

Only Jimmy Howard (64th overall, 2003) and Petr Mrazek (141st, 2010) were impact performers in the parade of draftees from that time period. The goalie candidates included the likes of Victor Brattstrom (2018), Keith Petruzzelli (2017), Joren Van Pottelberghe (2015), Chase Perry (2014), Jake Patterson (2012), Tom McCollum (2008), Logan Koopmans (2002), Stefan Liv (2000) and Jake McCracken (1998) among others.
