Svechnikov was a bust, Cholowski a bust, Rasmussen is ok, but players like Necas or Suzuki were there for the taking. Obviously Zadina, while he makes the games played list, he was a huge disappointment.

The Red Wings will have to find a diamond in the rough when trying to fill the top line center spot in their re-build, or have Yzerman work some trade magic. Hopefully Hakan Andersson can pull a rabbit out of his hat. It is much harder to find the sleepers, but it’s still possible, just look to the Dallas Stars who found that elusive first line center, Wyatt Johnson, with the 23rd pick in the draft. This is outside of Yzerman’s hands, his scouts need to deliver. So far, outside their top picks, they’ve been average.

Larkin was drafted by KH at 15th. Of course, all the rating services had him going about there, he grew up and played right in our backyard, so duh. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Once the talent drain in the office surrounding KH happened, (Nil, Yzerman, etc) DRW were doomed. But hey, we got to watch him bring Sheehan, Green, Jurko, AA, etc to Edmonton and during the process SY fleeced him to get back a few draft picks. What are friends for. 😅

And where you draft has a big impact with anything past the top 15 pics being crapshoots. Can’t find steals anymore with everyone now up to snuff re players all over the world and not just in your own backyard anymore. Won’t find a Konstantinov, Federov or even Lidstrom like the good ol’ days anymore.

Can someone please ask the Hockey Hall of Fame what they saw that any objective Red Wing fan didn’t?

Our eyes told us that every year. Blame falls to iliitchs for not recognizing this too. It’s a bitch being the boss, but heavy hangs the head that wears the Crown. Thank goodness Yzerma is here to turn this around, which he has in spades.. Kenny took his magic to Edmonton and failed even worse, but predictably there. I wish he had taken Draper with him. Nobody trying to hire him away.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to recognize who those players were until the entire rest of the planet had already been convinced. The DRW dynasty was built on late round picks from Europe. Thank you Hakan Andersson. Fun fact. KH left Edmonton after five years as GM just a few months ago. Today, there isn’t a single draft pick of his on the team. Of the players listed above, the good ones got traded away.
