Red Wings Notebook: Buchelnikov Nets OT Winner vs Larionov’s Team

Detroit Red Wings draftee Dmitri Buchelnikov put an end to a KHL preseason game on Wednesday, netting a spectacular overtime winner for Vityaz.
Posting a 3-2 victory over Torpedo, the team with Red Wings legend Igor Larionov as coach, Buchelnikov would pot the winner 4:24 into the extra session. Accepting a pass just outside the attacking blueline, Buchelnikov would unleash a burst of speed to get a step on three Torpedo defenders. Just as he was reaching the top of the hash marks, he was snapping a quick shot top shelf over the goaltender’s outstretched glove hand.

Detroit’s 52nd overall selection in the 2022 NHL entry draft, Buchelnikov, 20, was a 13-goal scorer last season with Admiral. Vityaz would acquire him during the KHL offseason.
MBN Is Two-For-Two
Two SHL preseason games, two goals for Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. Detroit’s top pick in the 2024 NHL entry draft was again proving the deadly accuracy of his one timer. Cruising in the deep slot, he took a drop pass from Jonathan Johnson and whistled a shot past the MoDo netminder all in one motion.
Brandsegg-Nygard, who was skating on Skelleftea’s top forward line, was also displaying an edge to his game during this contest. He got into scuffles with two North American players on the MoDo roster – American defenseman Paul LaDue and Canadian forward Samuel Vigneault.
Red Wings Larkin Slots In At Number 15
The NHL Network was releasing its ranking of the NHL’s top 20 centers, and Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was proving to be a center of attention. Larkin was listing 15th overall among the league’s best men in the middle.
Last season, despite missing 14 games, Larkin wound up scoring a career-high 33 goals.
Detroit Players Are Michigan Men
Larkin is among four Red Wings who played their college hockey for the Michigan Wolverines. Tyler Motte, J.T. Compher and Andrew Copp are the others. All were teammates on the 2014-15 Wolverines.

Wednesday, some of the Red Wings Michigan men found themselves mixing with current Wolverines. They were visitors at a Michigan football practice and were given the chance to check out the reigning national champions in action.
McCarty Tees It Up With Daly
Iconic. Notorious. Characters of the game. Adjectives that affix easily to both former Red Wings tough guy Darren McCarty and gregarious PGA Tour golfer John Daly.
These two sporting icons came together when McCarty teed it up to play a round of golf with Daly earlier this week.
“Just a couple dudes hanging out, talking golf and cannabis,” McCarty posted on X, the social media site once known as Twitter.
Kane Represents In Chicago
Patrick Kane may be gone from Chicago, but the Red Wings forward’s family was representing at Chicago’s United Center this week. His aunt Bonnie Kane Lockwood was serving as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention.
Lockwood, 69, is from Buffalo. She works for New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
