The Daily: Jagr the Gordie Howe of Czechia; Ex-Red Wing Dies
The always-fascinating Jaromir Jagr, 52, reportedly will try to play every game this season for the Kladno team he owns in the Czech Extraliga this season. He only played 15 games last season.
The Czech league plays 52 regular-season games. If Jagr plays a full schedule at his age, he would be achieving an accomplishment similar to what Gordie Howe in his final NHL season. Howe turned 52 at the end of the 1979-80 season when he played 80 games for the Hartford Whalers.
Here is the story on Isport.cz. You will need to use a translator app.
Besides the number of games, the biggest difference is Howe was playing at reasonably high level in the world’s best league. He scored 15 goals that season. Howe netted his final NHL goal, a playoff tally, when he was 52. Jagr had no goals and four points in his 15 extraliga games. Jagr, always a popular NHL player, netted 766 NHL goals before taking his talents home.
He said he has lost 15 pounds readying himself for the challenge.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Bob Duff writes about how Detroit prospects Jesse Kiiskinen and John Whipple battled each other for every inch of ice at the World Junior Summer Showcase at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
Former Red Wings player Murray Costello (1955-57) has died at age 90.
Former Detroit player Daniel Sprong hopes he has found a long-term home with the Vancouver Canucks. But he still must prove he’s worthy of a longer-term deal.

Give it up to Yzerman and Drapes! Your Detroit Red Wings front office execs made their way to 222 Republic Drive, Allen Park. Steve Yzerman and Kris Draper.
