Red Wings Not Going to Rush Top Prospect (+)

Axel Sandin Pellikka

With Simon Edvinsson graduating to the Detroit Red Wings, Swedish defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka is now unofficially the team’s top prospect.

But his new status won’t earn him an expedited rise to the parent club. Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said the preliminary plan is for Sandin Pellikka play another season for his Skelleftea team. Sandin Pellikka has helped that team reach the Swedish Hockey League Final where it owns a 1-0 lead over Rogle in the best-of-seven series. He didn’t play Game 1 because of illness.

“I expect him to stay,” Yzerman said. “We actually haven’t had a conversation with him but I expect him to remain in Sweden for another season but we haven’t had a conversation with him. My  is he will remain there for another year and if he wants to do that, we’re more than happy with that.”
